The game starts out the player's character (chosen from nine different characters each with a unique look and back story) on their deathbed. The player will be infected with malaria. An arms dealer, known as the Jackal, leans over your hospital bed to reiterate your pathetic state and express his disgust for you. After this, your health becomes better, fueled to recovery by an obsession with killing the Jackal because of his role in an African civil war. As you go through the game, you will find medicine that steadily 'cures' you, reinforcing your strength and giving you better resistance to attack and injury. As you lose access to medicine, your health declines until you find medicine again.
In the war, there are two large factions: the Alliance for Popular Resistance(APR, led by Oliver Tambossa, Chief of Staff for the former government) and the United Front for Liberation and Laboratory (UFLL, led by Addi Mbantuwe, a former opposition leader), both fighting for control of a failing Central African state. Both factions finance their war through the mining and trade of diamonds, which it has been recently revealed in the game world, has run dry. This news is the catalyst for the conflict presented in the game. Your mission in this war is to take out "The Jackal" who is encouraging the conflict between the two factions by selling weapons and diamonds to both sides and jeopardizing thousands of lives in the process.
In order to do this, your role in the war is to play the factions against each other, finding weaknesses, neutralising their superior numbers and firepower with any means at your disposal. This means that you will have the choice of how you attack each mission and you can pick and choose your missions at the same time.
